STAYING TRUE TO THEORY
Balmond Studio architecture is truly remarkable – a culmination of the cerebral workings of founder Cecil Balmond OBE. Animate geometry, pattern as organisation, the informal, parametric design, algorithm as freely moving creative locus; these are all concepts Balmond reveres. Aesthetically, we couldn't simply design these guidelines. We took the essence of Balmond's theories and methodology, interpreting and then translating the thinking into two dimensions.
Convention feels comfortable. But with risk comes reward. We wouldn't allow ourselves to conform on this project. We pushed. We probed. We innovated. Balmond was the gatekeeper and we knew he wouldn't accept anything less. The adoption of algorithm as an ever-changing, yet still recognisable, secondary brand symbol, was a real achievement.
